EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS

To Book an Educational Workshop:

Melissa conducts 5 hands-on presentations/workshops for elementary through middle-school students, including:

1-3) Three very affordable hands-on educational workshops (50-90 minutes), based on her children's books (for schools, libraries, museums, bookstores, festivals, farmer’s markets, etc.). Local workshops can be easily booked through the Durham Arts Council. Otherwise, please contact Melissa directly.

About CAPS:

4) A 4-6 session residency (50-90 minutes/session) during which Melissa works with students to create a *real* (self-published) picture book based on a cohesive theme they determine together. She puts everything together, converts it to pdf, uploads it to Kindle and provides you with the url that enables anyone to purchase an affordable printed copy of the book on Amazon, with proceeds going to your school/class/group. Here's a book Melissa recently compiled with a group of second-graders in Durham, NC.

5) Melissa also creates age-appropriate, site-specific story books that enable organizations and schools to provide in-depth education and outreach regarding recent initiatives and projects, highlighting practical science and sustainability in a personal way that goes beyond what can be accomplished with signage. Here's the last book Melissa created in this manner, about a "stormwater control measure" installed on an elementary school campus. Click the white arrow at right to view a video about the book’s creation and purpose.

Please contact Melissa to see what you can do together for the young people in your lives.
