The Kinks, Predatory Marketing, Durham's Elf, and Feline Broccoli

#ThemeSong Today: This song popped into my head today while I was playing badminton with my son; and I could not refrain from doing my best rendition of the chorus, which he graciously tolerated and may even have enjoyed (a little). To think the 😘 video below was filmed 5 years before I was born! It’s proof that a song doesn't have to have bad words or refer to sex and drugs to be cutting edge, and certainly not to stand the test of time.

#VideoOfTheWeek = My 17YO son, going to work in our Elf* hybrid tricycle. The Durham company that made the Elf (Organic Transit) was thankfully sold in bankruptcy and now exists under the same name in Phoenix, Arizona ♥️.

My #LatestRevelation:

I stared at the leftover steamed broccoli in the bowl on the kitchen counter. It really wasn't enough to put back in the fridge. As I considered my options, my cat, Kale, weaved around my legs meowing as if I understood what was coming out of his mouth. 'Course, it's never hard to ascertain what he is trying to say. He thinks he should eat whenever we do. As there are 4-5 of us in the house, eating at different times, we have to ration Kale's daily intake to keep him from getting fat. 1 cup of food a day, which Kale had already eaten. I considered the broccoli again and put several small pieces in Kale's bowl, which he eagerly devoured. I gave him a few more and then put the rest in the fridge to give him later. (Once Kale gets a taste for something, he'll pretty much eat as much of it as you'll give him.) Then I wondered if supplementing my cat's diet with vegetables might curb his appetite, providing an alternative to diet cat food. A brief trip down the wormhole revealed that it's not only okay to feed cats broccoli, it's actually good for them. So, from now on, when Kale is bugging us for food during the day, we're gonna give him lightly steamed broccoli and other cat-safe vegetables (we've determined he doesn't like them raw or oversoft). If he doesn't want them, then he's not really hungry.
