The State of Our Beaches and NC Gerrymandering
Even NC's beloved summer beach economy isn't enough for the state to *allow* localities to implement the protections necessary to keep our water safe. Instead, existing environmental protections have been eroding since the NC Republicans took over the state legislature in 2010 (the first time since 1870). In following elections, the courts ruled (repeatedly) that NC voting maps were gerrymandered and that the state of NC must redraw them impartially, as determined by the courts. There have been no repercussions for not doing so (sound familiar?), and - no surprise - the Republicans have maintained the state legislative majority... as our rivers, streams, and oceans die.
